Due to the shortened football season and his work commitments, Max has had no choice but to retire from the team.
Although we may miss him on the field, we will not miss him off the field as he plans to be the Relics No.1 supporter and retain his leading roll in emptying the esky.
Thanks Max for your contribution to the team, see you soon.
And, I guess that leaves an opening in the team for a new (old) player, I wonder if anyone is interested, hmm...
P.s. Thumbs down to the CCF Association who have decided to make their job easier by shortening the season.
Due to the bad weather, last year was a bad year for many teams who missed playing a third or more of their games. Which not only ment an uneven comp but an expensive one as well.
This year we don't have to worry about the weather anymore because CCF has guaranteed a bad year to most of the football teams they are supposed to be working for.
It is a sad day to see Maxi-Max retire. If ever I had coached he would always have been 1 of the first picked ( despite his own protestations ). No matter what happened, if Max was ever beaten by a player he is 1 of very very few players who would chase the bugger down to win the ball back or die trying. It is a lesson that could be well learnt by us all.
ReplyDeleteAs a coach, well maybe I will stop now, although he did lead us to a minor premiership and grand final win so he cant have been that bad. We did have to block our ears for post match briefings which were along the lines of how shit we were even tho we may have won 6-0.
Max sorry to see you go but as Vic has stated it is an expensive season however we are guaranteed to play all 14 games no matter how many wash outs there are as I believe every grade should be in an 8 team comp.
ReplyDeleteAnyone doing shift work,suffering an injury or family commitment will be compromised.The only advantage will be for teams playing in the Champion of Champions as they will have plenty of time between CCF finals and CoC rather than other years when they have occurred on the same weekend. Now the only other problem is that someone has to step up to the plate for Max and help finance our End of Season trip.
Well written Vic. Max will be missed not only by us but by the club as a stalwart who would alwsys help out when needed. I echo Micks comments about his work rate and chasing back. He showed several times last year how well he reads the game, and when his body allowed could still beat anyone. I first played with Max in 1998 and have spentt 8 years with him on and off since then, and was still learning. I'll miss him on the field but understand hes going to rock up for a kick on Feb 5 training.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to add to that;
ReplyDeleteone of the many things that max has coached us through is:
"The art of making yourself available"
and max certainly has done that
Statue are you referring that Bung made himself available to you because Ramon did not show ????
ReplyDeleteWell said Guys, I have been coached and played alongside by Max on and off over the last 14 years, you will be sorely missed as part of the Relics team on the field this year but its good to hear you will still be on the sidelines and Captain of the Relics social and drinking team. ( Watch out for Statue ).
ReplyDeleteNow coach
