Gumbies Humbled

The mighty Relics have continued their charge to the finals with a dominant 2-0 win against the Gumbies.  This is the second Gumbies drubbing within a month following on from the torrid and grubby 1-0 Tuesday night encounter a few weeks ago.

The Relics went into the match confident after a luckless 2-1 loss to the Gosford knuckle-draggers last week. 

From the outset it was clear that the Relics had the upper hand.  The Gumbies had nothing in attack and it would only be complacency which would prevent the Relics from singing their team song at match end. 

The Relics first goal came after some great lead up from the back-line which resulted in a goal mouth scap enabling the omnipresent Howler to lurch his paw forward to claim the goal.  There was no conclusive evidence, however, that Howler actually got a claw to the ball.  Post match the goal was awarded to the Relics backs as it was their preliminary work which proved decisive.  

Defensively the Relics were brilliant in the first half.  The mid-field enjoyed great service and in-turn they were able to feed great balls to Darchinyan, Axe, Howler and the Jaffa.  Tonka was revelling in the conditions eager to get a good hit on Judge Dredd, but to no avail.  Waz and his Ass combined well in the midfield and its a shame this obvious chemistry does not extend to their coaching skills.  The Axe looked likely and he even pulled off a successful back-heel and in the process donating a carton of VB for the end of season trip!  The Jaffa showed a surprising turn of foot and Shadow was again able to showcase his ball skills.  Its was also great to see Mickledildo back on the pitch doing what he does best - whatever that is!

The second half saw the Relics running downhill with a gale up their coits much to the delight of Mr Clean Sheets who actually fancied his chances of punting the ball to the half way line.  Again though it was the backline of Smokey, Toe, Hat, Ball, Banker and Becks which laid the platform for a completely dominant second half.  So dominant were the Relics that Sargeant Shultz threw his toys out of the cot and stormed off to his pay pen.  At this point the Gumbies turned into the Grumbles and had had enough and were playing for pride as the Relics strikers attempted shot after shot.  Eventually one distraught Gumby, looking for individual glory, thundered the ball past his own keeper for a neat Relics goal.

The highlight of the game came in the final few moments when Waz, was flicked like a flea when he went in for a tackle on one of the Gumbies.
