We must remember that at our age, even being able to play is a privilege, many of our mates can no longer play, their injuries no longer permit them to . Each game we get is a bonus as one of our team mates from last season is gone forever, and my greatest supporter is missed by me so much. Few of you realise just how tough it was for me to continue to play this season.
What we have in the Relics is special, and as our older players retire and pass on the baton it's important to try and retain the team spirit for which the Relics are known. We all play because we love to compete and we still can, but that should never be at the expense of appreciating that we are lucky to be able to play.
Smile today if you can, remember the good times you've had this season and the positive things you've done. If you can't today, then smile tomorrow, but smile.

Steve , I think we all knew how tough it was for you this season , however I (& probably the rest of us) think it was a good thing that you did play as an outlet to help you burn off some energy & take out some frustration & to have a few friends around that you could talk to.

From coach wiz and ass. It was a great season and with 20 players, we were competative in every game. Just to remind everyone, we lost 4 of our first 7 games and then turned things around to only lose 2 of our last 8 running into the semi. That is a great effort and something to build on next season. ReplyDeleteHaving not beaten Woy Woy this year and knowing they would turn up with their best squad, I think we all knew we would be up against it, but our past performances in recent games including those against Woy Woy were very solid.
From the kick off we had them scrambling like geese and it was awesome to be all over them.
One up in the second half I thought to myself, we can do this, and we held tight. Credit to Woy Woy they never gave up and eventually a goal was their reward. The rest is history and its sad that the Relics have been on the tail end of some classic games such as the semis against Gosford and Avoca last year with the mighty Statue amongst our ranks.
Proud to be a relic always. Well done team.
