K1 vs K2

With pelting rain & lightning on the coast we arrived at Mangrove Mountain to play the other Kincumber 45s in a make up game.
It was cool , not as cold as expected , and the game before us was occasionally pelted by rain - Woy Woy v Terrigal.
Four teams from the coast playing in the mountains on a Tuesday night - que?
We had ten of our regular players as many were out with injury or work commitments , and we had Blos subbing in for us as keeper.
Tolly injured ribs , Tony calf , Flem groin , Dave G knee , Shadow groin , Grant gastro - all elected to play to show the world the true meaning of the word Relic. This had even more meaning with Shadow's pre senile dementia showing form as he applied the Dencorub into his man bits instead of his groin. ( He then exhibited a very unusual dancing style )
We started well for a few minutes and then the pace of the other players ( our average age is a lot higher ), our injuries & the slippery conditions led to their first goal.
Whiz decided that he had had enough and made a blistering run after a through ball from Banker & Shadow where upon Bob coming out to protect his goal collided with Whiz.
We couldn't tell if the booming sound was thunder , legs breaking or an explosion of wind but both players dropped immediately.
Bob managed to limp back to his goal & Whiz looked to our bench before struggling off the field.
Down to ten , the K1's showed off by utilising their bench & put another 2 goals in.
Twenty minutes later Whiz returned to the game whereupon the K1s managed to score again.
Blos decided to give us a halftime talk ( read - blistering rev up ) and we returned to the pitch.
This time we played as a unit - Phil making runs down the sideline sending the ball to Tolly & Tony , Mick and Whiz feeding the ball from the midfield ,Shadow collecting balls from Banker & sending to Mick and Whiz , Banker feeding the ball to Posh , Flem & Grant who all took turns playing as backs and midfield.
K1s scored once more.
Posh went down with cramp & eventually bravely struggled to his feet after a few minutes.
From then on he made remarkable stiff legged runs down the outside of the pitch unchallenged. We were'nt too sure if the K1s were scared of him , had no idea of how to mark him or had taken pity on him.
Eventually we wore the K1s down to walking pace as they had run themselves ragged and just couldn't get a shot on goal with any accuracy.
Blos thanks for coming and the support you gave us.
Thanks to our crowd of four of our injured players who turned up for support.

  1. Shadow groin injury...is that because he played hard?

  2. We were never going to beat a team like the Allstars with the bare 11, and it was great to see the players that could, still turned up and prevented a forfeit.

Everybody work very hard, most of you probably haven't played a full game in years. For those that played through injuries against managers advise (eg. Whiz), I hope you can get back on the park this year.

    Great work, cheers.
