Relics 4 - 0
What a difference a week makes. If anyone bothered to read last weeks match report they would have thought the Relics were dead meat, stinking, festering offal left out in the sun, maggotted beyond recognition.
Coming into this weeks game against the lowly ranked East Gosford Easybeats many diehard Relic supporters felt that if the Relics sucuumbed to this bunch of spastics they should all give up and take on lawn bowls.
Once again the Relics were left short of troops thru injury, work or a complete lack of interest. When are the coaching staff going to learn we need a squad of 30 to keep a team of 11 of the pitch each week?
Ball, with new found status as a love machine due to his black balls decided not to play again opting instead to try out for the lead in a locally produced porno, unfortunately whilst he was rehearsing his balls faded back to their original colour and size and he was quickly axed from the production.
Undeterred Coach Philby tinkered with the make up of the side, & threw a few players into unfamiliar positions. With his side having their worst start in years and looking at an 8 nil drubbing based on the doubling scoreline from the first 3 games, Philby was on a hiding to nothing!
And if that wasn't enough he had the extra pressure of former coaches Whiz & Crow who both turned up to the game, circling like buzzards around a dead man walking.
Realising he needed some thing more Philby took advantage of the home ground and called up 3 of the young up & coming pups from the 35ds to bolster the ranks.
From the get go it was obvious the Easy beats were in fact Easybeats, the Relics front line toyed with their backs like cats with a bedraggled mouse, several chances went begging as the Relics fired shots over the bar, crazy considering the keeper was only 3 foot 6. It wasn't long though before the forwards clicked and realising Banker was actually there for a reason started giving him some ball. Banker too realised he was there for a reason and started scoring some goals, finally the penny had dropped for everyone!
Whilst it was raining pennys up front, the backline was cashing in as well. Dildo who has been shunted further back towards the goals with each game had a blinder. Coupled with his big Tassie mate Flemo & a fine supporting cast, the backs for the first time this year showed a steely resolve, plenty of positive talk and a commitment to defend, everyone take a bow !!!
The second half didn't live up to the first half, why would it ? we were up by 3. Most players were just going thru the motions when Wheats decided he couldn't be bothered running anymore and launched a lazy shot from 30 metres out, finally some one had realised how short the keeper was and the ball sailed in over his outstretched baby like arms.
A big thankyou to the 35Ds players Mark, Barry & Dennis they all contributed greatly. A big thankyou to the Relics players who ALL had a great dig, its always a pleasure to play when we have a go, lets keep it going every week!!

Relics 0 - 3
After a promising start to the season with a one all draw in round one, the Relics have begun a slippery slide down the greasy pole towards premiership anonymity.
Round 2 saw a depleted Relics squad heading up the F3 to take on a new look Doylo side. Trying to put memories of last years game at Doyalson out of their minds, the Relics were quietly confident that the absence of Posh & Blackbeard would help lessen the chances of a repeat of last years debacle.
Ten minutes into the game on a stinking hot afternoon the Relics were looking the goods, passing well and on the attack. Playing on a postage stamp sized field it wasn’t long before Jaffa unleashed what seemed like a clearing kick that somehow found the back of the net. “You Beauty Chrome Dome” rejoiced the amazed Relics, “this could be our day” some thought. But just as the Relics were starting to feel good about themselves enter... POSH.
Having laddered his stockings in the off season, a broken semblance of Posh’s former pathetic self tuned up to atone the wrongs of last year. “ Put me up front “ he bellowed, “ I need to make this right”. And as Tolly succumbed to another heart attack on the field, Posh got his chance up front.
Needless to say the Relics didn’t look like scoring again.
Whilst Posh made a valiant effort to help the injury stricken Relics up front, his usual dour defence at the back was sadly missed. Along with Ball who had strained his groin from trying to put it on someone’s shoulder who was way too tall for him to reach, the Relics lacked aggression at the back, allowing a soft goal in the first half and another straight after half time.
To their credit all the Relics to a man played pretty well, no subs on a hot afternoon doesn’t augur well for over 45 codgers and the team did well not to allow a well structured Doylo to turn it into a big score.
Moving on, the Relics felt confident that their next game, at their spiritual home of Terry Oval against former 45’s whipping boys Terrigal would see a first up win for the year. With a few players back on deck & Posh no where to be seen the Relics were pumped for a big score. And they got one ..... 0 - 4..... now that’s BIG. What the hell happened ?
Reading like a script from previous Relic play books it basically went this way, the Relics made plenty of early breaks but didn’t convert any of their chances, Terrigal created a few chances and converted all of them.
To Terrigal’s credit they controlled the midfield better than the Relics, they passed the ball a bit better and generally their players were hungrier for a win than the Relics, just have a look at their Goalies effort, no way he was gunna let a goal in!
While its easy to say it was Posh’s fault, in fact every thing IS Posh’s fault, the Relics need to take a good hard look at themselves. Every individual needs to ask themselves “am I giving 100%” and if they answer yes they should give themselves an uppercut and say I can give more!!!
Coach Philby must be feeling the heat, 3 games in and the goals against have doubled with each game, at this rate the Relics could lose their last game by 32678. Surely this would be grounds for dismissal.
Anyway its early days and we shouldn’t write the Relics off just yet, we’ve had some injuries and other teams will get the same, at the end of the day its about enjoying yourselves and just having a kick, so lets have some fun.
AND THERE’S NOTHING MORE FUN THAN KICKING SOME OTHER OLD TEAM’S ARSES AROUND THE PITCH!

Relics Season Opener
2013 and yet another year for the ageing RELICS. After what seemed a very short off season the Relics dragged their sorry sagging arses over to Ourimbah for their opening match of the season.
Buoyed by the fact the Ourimbah Ogres were backing up from a game the day before and TOLLY was unavailable to play the Relics felt confident they could put away the competition newcomers.
Vic decided to put his cue in the rack and kissed his new girlfriend goodbye commenting that he never missed a game when married and he wasn't about to start now. Bella on the other hand had been stood up by his date, 3 professional chinese drinkers touring Australia on a fact finding mission were assigned the dubious task of taking Bella down, they opted for the easier task of out drinking a couple of rugby teams leaving a disappointed Bella free to play.
Coach Sulo had come under increasing pressure in the off season to rebuild the Relics back to the force they once were. Losing Wiz wasn't helpful and looking at his ageing roster COACH realised he'd made a serious error of judgement in taking over the reins of this sorry lot. Never the less Philby is a man of his word so instead of dropping everyone and starting over he implemented some positional changes, crossed his fingers and prayed to the soccer gods for divine intervention.
Whilst a few players in the team could benefit from an intervention a divine one was not forthcoming. Once again the Relics totally controlled the first half of the game, out running and out playing the Ogres all over the park. Goal scoring opportunities abounded as the Relics shredded the Ogres defence but once again the finishing let them down, several chances went begging as the Relic forwards miscued.
Finally the effort in passing and running to the ball paid off with a cross from the wing finding Banker in front and DUKES as he likes to be called finished it nicely. Several more near misses from the Relics should have seen them up by 3 at halftime instead they nearly conceded a penalty on halftime when instead of clearing the ball players tried to beat the opposition, the ball was lost and in the melee a penalty for hand ball was awarded. The laconic BELLA calmly took his hat off stood his ground and watched the ball sail over the top, "god this is easy " thought Bella, "I should be up front ".
Second half and it started much the same way as the first, the Relic backs and midfield held up the Ogres and they never looked like penetrating, on the change over the ball was pushed wide and the Relics were on the attack time and time again. Once again the Relics threatened but to no avail.
Possibly frustrated by the ineptness of the forwards attack the backs decided to play silly buggers and pass the ball to each other in their own zone, flashbacks of a game at Doylo came back to haunt the Relics as the Ogres scored what could only be called a soft goal. Lets have a team meeting right here now and vote youse never do that again!!!!!
All in all the RELICS can be proud of themselves, everyone had a dig, everyone contributed & Smokey got thru the game unscathed. If we stick to the game plan( WHATEVER THAT MAY BE) and play our part for the good of the team and not as individuals I'm predicting a good year for the RELICS.

Kenny Calander's end of year form guide.
Once again the RELIC'S have commissioned form guru Ken Callander to follow up on his pre season tips with an update on how the RELICS performed in 2012 & his VERDICT on how each individual may perform in 2013.
BANKER BOY: A solid campaign by the old stager, probably carrying a bit more weight than he should, but always competitive. Probably needs to take the lead more often next year, could be the difference when it gets down to the nitty gritty end of the run.
VERDICT: GET BACK ON THE PISS!!!
BELLDALE BALL: Forced to run out of blinkers this season & wasn't always at his best. Needs to be given a clear path & watch him go! Likes to fire up the rest of the field & can handle a good whippin.
VERDICT: Treat him mean & keep him keen.
SULO STAR: Big improver for the year, running with much less weight, quick off the mark & breathing easier. Looked better to the fillies as well. Still a work in progress as he tries to get his legs to work in unison with his brain. Running all over the place may eventually take it's toll on his body, but considering he's done nothing for the last 20 years his body's probably as fresh as a 25 year old, which in horse years makes him frickin old.
VERDICT: May need to put some weight back on, is getting bounced by feather weights.
BLACK CROWIAR: SCRATCHED !!!
VERDICT: Waiting stewards enquiry.
TOE JAM: Reliable again, a bit one dimensional, may need to drop the blinkers and mix it up a bit. Certainly has the love of the crowd (all 4 of them). Also likes to get the colours off at every opportunity.
VERDICT: PLEASE keep the colours on !
BOLD BECKS: Stodgy at best, probably better suited to pulling a plough.
VERDICT: The less said the better!
SHADOW CHASER: Mixed up his campaign with the odd run & a lot of stud work, very much in demand with one particular mare. Looked a bit drained when the gates opened but always gave it a shot.
VERDICT: The stud work should dry up next season, expect to see him prancing thru the field.
RANGIRANGHOWLER: A gifted animal who can handle the long & short trips equally. A pleasure to watch when he pins the ears back (his & others). Unfortunately it seems the fetlocks are giving out, has an injury list to rival OLD SMOKEY.
VERDICT: May be his last race in colours, retire him out to stud.
MR BLACKBEARD: Runs a good race & always keen. Tends to put the head down however, and can lose his line, taking others out with him. Likes the adulation of getting past the post.
VERDICT: I'm thinking one of those bondage masks with the mouth bit in it could improve the problem.
AXE MARK: Pugnacious pony who likes it up front, easily lost when back in the pack & starts to pig root for no apparent reason.
VERDICT: Change of diet from the green can to gold can may extend his racing career.
HEAD BUTT: Early promise shown at trackwork did not materialise on the track, regularly missed Relic race meetings to run in other divisions. Certainly looked quicker when around the refreshment trough.
VERDICT: They shoot horses don't they?
VICTORIOUS: Little goer from previous years with plenty of form. A change of stables early in the year put his preparation back but he finished the year solidly.
VERDICT: Sowing his oats in 2013 may consume his new found energy.
OLD SMOKEY: Ran in a lot of different positions this year and didn't look comfortable in any of them. His best contributions were off the field managing the refreshments trough.
VERDICT: Could go down as one of the best beer bitches ever.
VERDICT: Look for a more relaxed Hat in 2013.
THE WHIZTHATWAZ: Always the one to watch..... when he turned up! Expected to lead early but never really got in to the race. A great pacer on his day and always has the attention of the rest of the field.
VERDICT: May look to greener pastures in 2013.
THE RUBBER ROD: Works best when well lubricated, unfortunately spent most of the year dryer than a nun's nasty. Has a distinct dislike to running which doesn't augur well when you consider the sport he's in.
VERDICT: Needs to get his head out of the chooffe bag and smell the roses.
DEBBIE DOES: Likeable rogue who likes to talk the talk, hasn't been seen if he can walk the walk yet, but hey ! I wouldn't want to ride him!
VERDICT: Needs a tight rein.
RED JAFFE: Burly animal running out of the same stable as THE WHIZTHATWAZ, lacks the same finesse as his stablemate and is prone to pig rooting when cornered.
VERDICT: Candidate for Perkins paste.
TONKA TRUCK: Running on memory ( what's left of it) showed glimpses of the old magic whenever he decided to turn up.
VERDICT: Needs to show more glimpses.
BELLADONTE: Late starter that never left the barriers all year. Asian trained & known to like a drink, this big unit is a stayer not a sprinter.
VERDICT: His lack of mobility won't be a problem.
Good luck to all the runners, have a safe & happy Xmas & we'll see what turns up on Derby Day 2013.
THE FASCINATOR: A trying year by any stretch of the imagination, showed plenty of heart under extreme duress and always put in a good run. Courageous effort !

Hat and Wild Thing share
At the Shoal bay trip. our Steven "Statue" Dunlop Best & Fairest award was presented for the first time. The award is designed to recognise contributions both on and off the field, and supporting the Relics spirit. The award was jointly given to Phil and Steve on equal votes from the panel.
The inaugural supporters award was awarded to Ida (see following story).
The initial "Balls Up" award was given in a narrow vote to Spaldo for his wonderful call of "dont worry I've got him covered" just before Ninja took the ball off him and scored. A honorable mention in the Balls Up was earned by Shadow at the weekend by getting the bias wrong on his bowl, not once, not twice, but four times!! in a row, talk about Alzheimers setting in.
Phil was voted in as coach for 2013 (Posh abstained so he couldnt be blamed for any carnage).
Grant volunteered Kathy to be BB as they are about to move to Kincumber, (Thanks Kathy).
Also Crowy initially volunteered to be Manager, but has subsequently realiased it won't quite work in with his kids football commitments, so we still need a team manager/ coordinator. A great weekend for all, not even spoiled by having Bella back !!
Next years trip date is decided, 8,9 10 November, weekend after the Melbourne Cup, so keep it free.

Ida Crys coz she misses you all !
For those of you who aren't aware Ida's health has deteriorated rapidly and after a recent visit to Tassie for work, she has decided to stay there. Her stuff has been moved down and she's living quite close to my sister. I saw her at the weekend and she told me how much she's been missing you all. I had taken a Relics top and told her I needed a photo for her 'boys'. Then I presented her with the inaugural Relics Supporters shield, the Rosanna Fleming Memorial award, which had been kindly given to me on the weekend away.
Fair to say, she was chuffed and very sad but asked me to pass on her best to you all, (actually she told me to tell you all to get stuffed) but I knew what she meant. The shield has gone to pride of place on her mantle piece and she knows she has to give it back at end of next season. Thank you all from me as well. A wonderful tribute to Rosanna, who was always a strong (and quite vocal) supporter of the Relics and me. Especially thanks Crowie, a great way to support the Relics spirit.
